Performance & Durability

What are “double rubs” (and what is double rub testing)?

Double rubs are a measure of abrasion resistance, or how well an upholstery material withstands repeated friction over time. Double rub testing is the standardized method used to determine this rating. It simulates the back-and-forth motion of someone sitting on and rising from a seat to estimate real-world wear.

Higher ratings indicate greater durability. Typical ranges:

  • Residential: 15,000 to 25,000
  • Commercial: 50,000 to 250,000+
