Posted on

Morbern has been named as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies. The award acknowledges Morbern’s dedication to innovative, world-class business practices.

For the second year in a row, Cornwall, Ontario-based Morbern has been named as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

Established in 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies organization remains one of the world’s leading business awards programs recognizing companies for innovative, world-class business practices.

“It is such an honor to be included with this select group of companies,” said Morbern CEO Mark Bloomfield. “I couldn’t be more proud of the entire Morbern team for achieving this recognition for two consecutive years. If you think about the obstacles that we had to overcome during the past 12 months, this is truly a remarkable accomplishment.”

The 2021 Best Managed program award winners are among the best-in-class of Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues of more than $25 million, demonstrating investment in talent and technology, innovation in a competitive environment, and an increased focus on global competition. Each entrant is examined in four categories of its structure: strategy, capability, commitment and return on investment.

Canada’s Best Managed Companies is run by a group comprising Deloitte, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Smith School of Business, TMX and Canadian Business Magazine. Each year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the caliber of their management abilities and practices.

Morbern joins a field of prestigious winners. The entire list can be found at www.bestmanagedcompanies.ca.

The billion-dollar world of sports connects fans from around the globe, with bonds that run deep and a camaraderie that can last a lifetime. Fellow fans indicate their alliance by sporting team colors. A dual-colored bumper sticker, jersey or t-shirt is a sure sign of someone’s home team.

That’s why Morbern created Varsity, a colorful line of vinyls geared toward the sports enthusiast and designed for the hospitality market and the marine aftermarket. With guidance from the color experts at Pantone, it carefully selected the most popular color combinations for teams nationwide. Anything that can be covered in vinyl, can become a team player.

“In the world of commercial interiors and product design, color is a major factor in attracting the consumer,” said John Weaver, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Morbern. “Varsity taps into the emotional response color generates, and gives restaurants, hotels, marine companies and product manufacturers a new way of appealing to their customers.”

Twas the Night Before Christmas (Morbern Edition)

Posted on

With apologies to Clement C. Moore.  This is the version we read each Christmas Eve at Morbern.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the (vinyl wrapped) house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung (with adhesive vinyl) by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds;

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the (vinyl) window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the (vinyl) shutters and threw up the (vinyl) sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,

Gave a lustre of midday to objects below,

When what to my wondering eyes did appear,

But a miniature sleigh (with vinyl upholstery) and eight tiny rein-deer,

With a little old driver so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

Now, Bantam! now, Freeport! now Abbey and Carina!

On, Sanibel! on, Cinema! on Bayside and Catalina!

To the top of the (vinyl trimmed) porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”

As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;

So up to the housetop the coursers they flew

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too—

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the (vinyl) roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot

A bundle of (vinyl) toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly

That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the (vinyl decal) stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh (with a vinyl dashboard), to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Light on Additives, Bantam Still Packs a Heavy

Posted on

When Morbern created its latest product addition to its line of commercial interior vinyls, the task was to make something different – something powerful yet sustainable. The research team delivered Bantam and Morbern knew they’d found a winner.

Bantam packs a powerful punch of performance for contract and healthcare interiors. Often the most challenging environments in commercial design, healthcare interiors demand not only high performance in critical spaces, but also health and sustainability attributes.

It’s lack of additives is what makes it a lightweight winner. Free of anti-microbial additives, phthalates and flame retardants yet CAL TB-117 compliant, this fighter of a fabric shows no wear after 100,000 double rubs and is cold crack resistant to -25° F. It spars with stains like cola, coffee and ketchup, and then easily cleans with soap and water.

Bantam’s environmentally friendly attributes means it falls under the MorGreen label, Morbern’s initiative to create products that are sustainable, responsible and leave as little environmental impact as possible.

Bantam features an anti-static slip finish, urine stain resistance, sulfide stain resistance and oil resistance. Its palette of 10 colorways comes in earthy shades of blue, red, green, orange, yellow and gray.

Colorways:

  1. Apple (Green)
  2. Cosmic (Blue)
  3. Dove (Light Gray)
  4. Firelight (Yellow)
  5. Ghost (Medium Gray)
  6. Ginger (Orange)
  7. Inkberry (Purple)
  8. Iron (Dark Gray)
  9. Rabbit (Taupe)
  10. Tropical (Red)
