Morbern Named One of Canada’s Best Managed Companies

Posted on

Morbern has been named as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies 2020. The announcement came today in a release issued by Deloitte. Morbern was one of only 30 companies across the country to receive the designation, and this is the first time the company has been selected.

“It’s an enormous honor to be named as part of this prestigious group,” said Morbern CEO Mark Bloomfield. “To become a successful company requires buy in from every employee as we work toward a common goal, and this award reflects well on each and every member of the Morbern team.”

Morbern was nominated during the summer of 2019 and successfully advanced through two levels of competition to become a finalist last fall. The company was the only new finalist in the Eastern Ontario territory.

The 2020 Best Managed program award winners are among the best-in-class of Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues of more than $25 million, demonstrating investment in talent and technology, innovation in a competitive environment, and an increased focus on global competition. Now in its 27th year, Canada’s Best Managed Companies remains one of the country’s leading business awards programs recognizing Canadian-owned and managed companies for innovative, world-class business practices.

Canada’s Best Managed Companies is run by a group comprising Deloitte, CIBC, Smith School of Business, TMX and Canadian Business Magazine. Each year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the caliber of their management abilities and practices.

Morbern joins a field of prestigious winners. The entire list can be found at www.bestmanagedcompanies.ca.

Morbern Prepared for New California Upholstery Law

Morbern announces immediate availability of products for the needs of the architectural and design community doing business in California. As of Jan. 1, 2020, the state no longer allows the sale or distribution of upholstered furniture (or its components) which contains flame retardants, part of Assembly Bill 2998 which passed in 2018 and became effective this month.

“We’ve been developing FR-free vinyls for several years now,” said Morbern Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing John Weaver. “As we talked to architects, designers and manufacturers, we began to understand the challenges with flame retardants, so our R&D team went to work developing product formulations which removed retardants from the majority of our commercial interiors line.”

AB 2998 is the most stringent U.S. law concerning regulation of residential flame retardant exposure. It expands on California Technical Bulletin 117-2013, enacted in January 2015, which tightened flame retardant standards on upholstery and took the focus from filling materials to the cover fabric.

Morbern currently has 16 products in stock that are compliant with TB 117 and AB 2998. Each product has a multitude of colorways.

  • Allante Free – a soft hand with leather-like qualities for the hospitality and public seating markets
  • Americana – a fabric-like, heathered texture for the contract market
  • Bantam – free of anti-microbial additives, phthalates and flame retardants for healthcare and hospitality markets
  • Bloom – Morbern’s first FR-free product for the healthcare market, with three patterns
  • Freedom – a digital print for the healthcare market
  • Hexx – a weather resistant hexagon pattern for the hospitality market
  • Maverick – a stain-resistant topcoat makes for easy cleanup in the hospitality market
  • Morcare Collection™ – select patterns are FR-free for the healthcare market
  • Natural Linen – a textured surface for healthcare and hospitality markets

Later in 2020, Morbern will introduce several additional vinyls that comply with California AB 2998.

Morbern Marine Products Gain IMO-MED Certification

Posted on

Morbern’s newest marine vinyls, Surf and Bayside have just received the International Maritime Organization Marine Equipment Directive Wheelmark, or IMO MED Wheelmark, certification.

The IMO MED Wheelmark is a quality management system which sets performance and testing standards for marine equipment placed on vessels sailing on international waters. The certification is recognized internationally and it remains valid for five years.

Surf and Bayside are designed to handle all the challenges that long exposure to sun and water bring. Both employ Morbern’s Splash construction, a pink-stain resistant vinyl formulation, the gold standard in the marine industry.  With UV protection, crack resistance and 4-way stretch, they are ideal materials for boat interiors and exteriors. They can handle the weather with their mildew resistance, 1,000 hours of exposure under WeatherOmeter testing, and a cold crack rating of -25 degrees Fahrenheit.

The IMO MED certification’s icon, the “wheel mark” accreditation, will be included on all new product cards, indicating the company’s vinyl can be specified for large vessels and passenger ships.

Morbern’s New Surf and Bayside

Posted on

Surf and Bayside are apt names for two new vinyls from Morbern designed to handle all the challenges that long exposure to sun and water bring.  These durable, colorful, high performance products work just as well in contract and hospitality settings as they do in the marine applications for which they were designed.

Both Surf and Bayside employ Morbern’s Splash construction, a pink-stain resistant vinyl formulation, the gold standard in the marine industry.  With UV protection, crack resistance and 4-way stretch, they are ideal materials for boat interiors and exteriors. While originally designed for the marine market, the wide range of colors, excellent tailorability and significant wear resistance make them a great choice for contract interiors as well.

They can handle the weather with their mildew resistance, 1,000 hours of exposure under WeatherOmeter testing, and a cold crack rating of -25 degrees Fahrenheit. And this product handles 100,000 double rubs without significant wear.

Bayside

Bayside features a smooth, matte linen grain in a range of 28 colors including a wide range of neutrals plus rich, rustic and earthy shades of reds, blues, yellows and greens.

Surf

The wavy lines in Surf’s deeply grained surface mimic the flow of the sea. The matte finish keeps it feeling casual, as do the 23 colorways in a palette of neutrals plus earthy reds, greens, oranges and blues.
